Storms

Storms are part of life. They come suddenly, or sometimes we can hear the thunder rumbling from a distance and the flashes of lightening from afar. They could be psychological, emotional, physiological or even relational storms. Trying to survive storms can leave you exhausted and confused. When we are exhausted, we sometimes find ourselves dealing with issues and managing events we have no business getting involved with. The home is usually the safest place to be during the storm. We are adviced to stay away from windows, and electric appliances. So also during the storms of life, the safest place to be is in the presence of our God. We must avoid looking through the windows of life, at what's happening outside and focus on God's assurance of protection and providence inside his shelter. Ps. 91:1-2 assures us that God is our shelter and fortress. In Matt 7:25, Christ says when the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Christ is our rock. Our ever present help who is inviting us to trust him and allow him to help us, to carry our yoke with us. Who better to lean on than the one who's been there? Who knows first hand what it is like to carry the burdens of the world upon his shoulder, even until death.

During the storms, listening to the strong winds threatening to break down the walls of our shelter, the loud strike of lightening and the deafening roar of the thunder can shake our confidence. It is in those moments you must decide to trust in God's strength. Trust that God sees you. He is in that room with you, watching over you and protecting you. You may not see him in the darkness of the clouds or hear him through all that noise, but know that he sees you and is with you in every moment. He will ride the storm with you even if he has to defy nature to do so.
